Middlesbrough stunned Manchester United out of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night, beating the Red Devils 3-1 on penalties.
The Championship side held United to a 0-0 draw for 120 minutes at Old Trafford and were clinical in the shootout.
Only youngster Andrea Pereira scored his kick, while captain Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Ashley Young all missed.
Middlesbrough will meet Everton in the quarter-finals following Wednesday’s draw.
Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho is expected to lock horns with compatriots Sone Aluko and Chuba Akpom in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup.
Manchester City, who thrashed Crystal Palace 5-1, will host Championship side Hull City at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea conquerors Stoke City with Osaze Odemwingie, will entertain Sheffield Wednesday at the Britannia Stadium.
In the final last eight fixture, Liverpool will travel to St. Mary’s to be guests of Southampton.
Chelsea won last year’s Capital One Cup after they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final.
