Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the Golden Eaglets for successfully defending their FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile and believes he might be the team's lucky charm.
Coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys won the championship for a record fifth time last year, having won it for the first time 30 years ago when Buhari was military Head of State.
“Thirty years after the first victory, Nigeria won again last year. What a fabulous coincidence. I think football loves me,” said President Buhari in an official statement released on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets and the U-23 Eagles will be hosted by the President on January 21, 2016, at the Presidential Villa alongside other athletes who made the country proud in 2015.
