Cecilia Francis Chases 60M Entry Standard Ahead IAAF World Indoor Championships

By Dare Esan:

Sprinter Cecilia Francis says she is on a mission to the Jablonec Indoor Gala in Jablonec, Czech Republic on Saturday to beat the 7.32 seconds 60m entry standard set by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for the 16th World Indoor Championships which holds from March 17-20 in Portland, Oregon, USA, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Francis, under the stable of renowned athletics coach, Tony Osheku, wants to cap her debut indoor season with a chance to run at the world stage again barely seven months after racing for the Nigerian 4x100m team at the IAAF World outdoor championships in Beijing, China last year.

"My focus is on the 7.32 seconds entry standard," said Francis in an e-mail to her coach.

The 20 year old Lagos girl believes she has overcome stage fright, travel weariness and the almost unbearable cold that trailed her debut indoor race last month in Metz, France where she ran 7.40 seconds,na then leading Nigeria 60m time.

"I have no doubt in my mind that Cecilia can get the standard. Although I would have loved her to have had a couple more races before Saturday's race, but the big heart she showed in Metz running in such conditions is an indication that she can surprise with a 7.30," said Osheku who guided Falilat Ogunkoya to a 400m silver medal finish at the 7th edition of the championships inside the Green Dome in Maebashi, Japan in 1999.
