The Nigeria Football Federation will have talks with clubs in the Glo Premier League to ensure prompt release of players ahead of the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
National U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, is struggling to put together a squad for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations later this month with the majority of the clubs refusing to release their players for the pre-tournament camping excercise in Abuja.
Completesportsnigeria.com scooped from a top official of the football house that they are planning a meeting with the clubs to avoid a repeat of the same scenario ahead of preparations for the CHAN tournament, which is scheduled for January and February 2016.
“It’s important that we have a meeting with the club officials to facilitate the prompt and easy release of players when we commence preparations for the competition,” the source informed Completesportsnigeria.com.
“We would like to avoid a repeat of what we experienced with the U-23 side.
“The CHAN is a big competition and we will like to do better than we did the last time in South Africa.”
The competition is reserved for senior players plying their trade in their country’s domestic leagues.
It will be staged in three Rwanda cities of Kigali, Gisenyi and Bature from January 16 to February 6.
The Glo Premier League season will end in November and likely resume in January for the new season.
