Chelsea’s Under-18s manager Joe Edwards says he and his golden boys knew Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho who scored Manchester City’s only goal in Monday night’s game would cause them problems.
Iheanacho missed the first leg in Manchester won 3-1 by Chelsea due to injury but recovered to feature in the reverse fixture which incidentally was his debut in the competition.
“City were able to bring in their centre-forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who was unavailable for the first leg, but we knew the threat he was able to bring and he showed that with the early goal,” said Edwards who praised another strong defensive display, citing the mentality of his players as key to putting in a calm performance across both legs.
Meanwhile, Manchester City has cleared by Iheanacho to join the Flying Eagles team who will be preparing for next month’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Germany.
”Kelechi Iheanacho had an ankle injury but he’s now fully fit,” a representative of the striker told SL10.
”Both Manchester City and his management team decided that he should not undergo surgery, so Kelechi was very disciplined to wear a cast.
”With this game in the bag, expect him to join the Flying Eagles camp soon.
”He has shot down all rumours concerning his fitness. On Monday night he showed everyone that he still has his sharpness, he is back.”
The 18-year-old Iheanacho was one of the revelations of the 2013 FIFA Under 17 World Cup, and was presented with the Golden Ball as the best player of the competition.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
