Conte Targets EFL Cup As Terry Returns Vs West Ham

Antonio Conte has revealed that the English Football League Cup is one competition Chelsea plan to win this season.

Chelsea will hope to replicate their 4-0 feat against Manchester United last weekend when they go to the London Stadium to face West Ham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Under former boss Jose Mourinho, Chelsea won the EFL Cup in the 2014-2015 season, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final.

Ahead of Wednesday’s clash against West Ham, Conte stated that there will be changes in his side’s line-up.

He also expressed delight that the EFL Cup will afford him the chance to look at Chelsea young players.

“It’s an important competition for us,” Conte said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“We also know that this cup can permit you to see some players, above all young players.

“There will be some changes to the team from the Manchester United win so I can see other players’ development.”

Commenting on West Ham performance so far in the league, Conte described them as a good side who have managed to put a couple of good results together after a poor start to the season.

“West Ham had a bit of difficulty at the start but now after two wins, the confidence is high. They have a lot of good players.

“Slaven Bilic is a great manager and I know him and their some of their players, like Zaza too.”

Conte disclosed that skipper John Terry who has been out injured, will start against West Ham.

“John Terry is fit to start and is in good shape.

“Ivanovic has started to train again but will need more time before he can play. Fabregas is still out.”
