Crestfallen Falcons Return, Go On One Week Break

The Super Falcons have arrived the country from Bata, Equatorial Guinea after crashing out of the race for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation, the team touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos on Tuesday and were received by 1st Vice President of the federation, Seyi Akinwunmi.

The team were billed to fly to Abuja at 6pm on Tuesday and will observe a one-week break before regrouping ahead of the All-Africa Games.

The Falcons lost 2-1 to Equatorial Guinea in the return leg of the Olympic qualifier in Bata on Sunday, thus losing 3-2 on aggregate having earlier drew 1-1 in the first leg in Abuja.

Ngozi Okobi put the Falcons ahead in the first half. But Equatorial Guinea equalized with less than 10 minutes to go in the second half, before going on to score the winner in extra-time.

The team failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games after losing to Cameroon.

The Super Falcons will feature at the All Africa Games in Brazaville, Congo.
