Following D’Tigress’ inability to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games holding in Rio, Brazil from the Women’s Afrobasket held in Cameroun last year, Completesportsnigeria can report that the Nigerian women will know their opponents in the 2016 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Tuesday.
According to the world basketball governing body, Federation International Football Association, the draw for the tournament is scheduled to hold at The House of Basketball, FIBA’s headquarters, Switzerland on Tuesday.
The 12 teams that will participate in the 2016 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (WOQT) have been classified into three pots on the basis of their quality and geographical principles.
Nigeria will be with New Zealand, Cameroon, Nigeria and Venezuela in pot 3, Cuba, Argentina, China and Korea in pot 2 while France, Spain, Belarus and Turkey will compete in pot 1.
Nigeria finished third in the women’s tournament to miss the Rio Olympics from the continental tournament while Senegal won the trophy to book a place in the global event
The Official Draw will be carried out by FIBA Sport & Competitions Director Predrag Bogosavljev, with the help of past and present stars of the game in the shape of Ana Dabovic, Jorge Garbajosa, Ilona Korstin and Radoslav Nesterovic.
