Minister of sports Solomon Dalung has said that the sports ministry will not pressure coach Sunday Oliseh to win the African Nations Championship trophy at all costs.
In a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com here in Kigali, Dalung played down the win at all costs syndrome that has characterized Nigeria’s participation in competitions in the past, but maintained that Nigeria’s bronze winning feat in South Africa can be surpassed if the team can remain focused and put in extra work in training
He charged Oliseh to develop the Eagles into a team that can compete with top teams like Tunisia, Mali and Rwanda as Nigeria attempt to win CHAN for the first time.
“We are not asking coach Sunday Oliseh to win CHAN at all costs but I feel the prospect of a first class student starts from his first result," Dalung said.
“It will be great to see Oliseh win the trophy because it will go a long way to put him on the driving seat as Super Eagles manager.”
Super Eagles gave a slice of what to expect from them after a massive rout of Mena of Niger by 4-1 with three goals coming from Chisom Chikatara and one from Osas Okoro.
Nigeria face The Carthage Eagles on Friday after the North Africans were forced to a 2-2 draw in the Group opener on Monday.
A win for the Home Eagles will see them qualify for the quarter-finals.Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
