Nauru weightlifter Itte Detenamo has won his country’s first medal at Glasgow Commonwealth Games, claiming silver in the men’s over 105kg class.
The 27 year old lifted 174kg in the snatch and 222kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 396kg, to match his second placed finish from the Delhi Games four years ago.
Canada’s George Kobaladze won the gold medal with a Games record lift of 400kg.
Samoa’s Lauititi Lui finished eighth while Niue’s Daniel Nemani was ninth.
Kobaladze who recorded a Games record of 400kg.
Detenamo says he went into the event confident he could win the title but is still happy with his effort.
