Port Harcourt sides, Dolphins and Sharks, recorded important wins on Saturday in their Glo Premier League match day 20 fixtures, boosting their chances of escaping the drop.
In the first match of the day, 10-man Dolphins defeated Nasarawa United 3-1 with Ifeanyi Egwin scoring a hat-trick the first by any player in the league this season.
The afternoon started on a disappointing note for Dolphins as their goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi was red carded for handling the ball outside the area.
The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute through Esosa Igbinosa but Egwin drew his side level few minutes later.
Despite playing with a man down it was Dolphins who went ahead through Egwin before half time.
He got his third of the game in the 56 minute to put the game beyond the visitors.
In the day’s other game, Sharks got their revenge over Warri Wolves who beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture a forthnight ago by winning with the same scoreline.
Two first half goals, a wonderful free-kick by Fredrick Obamate in the 26th minute and another effort by Chiamaka Madu five minutes before half-time set the Blue Angels on their way to victory in the match played at the Sharks Stadium.
Warri Wolves got their consolation goal through Kufre Ebong in the 84th minute.
Sharks have now moved up to 17th position on the log, while Dolphins sit in 18th position.
