–To help team prepare for Burkina Faso
Coach of the National basketball men’s team, Sani Ahmed says the ongoing 4-Nation Invitational Tournament in South Africa will help his team to prepare well for the 2015 FIBA- Africa Championship and All Africa Games’ second leg match qualifier against Burkina Faso. The match will hold on March 25 in Lagos.
The first leg match played on Monday in Ouagadougou saw D’Tigers returning home with 87-64points victory against Burkina Faso and the Nigerians will be hoping to win the second leg match to actualize their dream of featuring in both competitions.
Speaking to Complete Sports at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos before departing for South Africa on Wednesday, Coach Ahmed said winning in South Africa is not as important as using the tournament to prepare for the crucial match against Burkina Faso.
“We are glad to be invited for the 4-Nation Invitational Tournament but I must say that our aim to South Africa is to use the tournament to prepare for the crucial African Championship qualifier against Burkina Faso”, begins the Kano Pillars coach.
“Already, the players are tired because we came back from Burkina Faso on Tuesday and we had to travel another long journey on Wednesday, so it is somehow difficult but we will try our best in South Africa.
Nigeria will compete with host nation South Africa, Kenya and Mozambique.
