Team Nigeria women’s basketball coach, Aderemi, has told completesportsnigeria.com exclusively here in Congo Brazzaville that D’Tigress are here to win the gold medal of the women’s basketball event.
Coach Aderemi also disclosed that they are using the 11th All Africa Games as dress rehearsal for the Nations Cup Basketball Championship coming up in Cameroon.
“We have prepared well right from home even though we’ve met some challenges here in Congo as regards training ground,” he said.
“But in the last four days everything has been working well, we have procured a gym where we practice and I must say the team is ready for the basketball event.
“Nigeria is regarded as a major force in African basketball as well as Angola, but we’re up to it.
“We’ve respect for every team, including Angola and we don’t underrate any team too.
“We also do not pay special attention to any team, rather we take each team as they come.
“We are ready to play, we are here for the basketball gold medal and by the special grace of God, we’re going home with the gold medal, this is a promise to Nigerians back home.”
He hinted that the team will try to emulate their male counterparts, D’Tigers, who won the recently concluded Afrobasketball championship in Tunisia and qualifiedfor the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
“We want to use this All Africa Games as pre-tournament for the forthcoming Basketball Nations Cup coming up in Cameroon later this year.
“The Nations Cup is coming from 24th September to October 5. So we’ll move straight from here at the end of the All Africa Games to Cameroon.
“We came here with the full compliment of the D’Tigress squad, 12 players in all, six foreign based and six home based players,” he stated.
Coach Aderemi outlined the facilities the All Africa Games organisers have put in place for the games, stressing that they are world class.
