Dzeko Still Bitter About Bosnia’s World Cup Defeat To Nigeria

By James Agberebi:

Former Manchester City striker, Edin Dzeko, has revealed that losing to Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with Bosnia Herzegovina really hurt him and his teammates.

The Super Eagles defeated Bosnia Herzegovina 1-0 thanks to Osaze Odemwingie's first half goal.

The Eagles went on to qualify for the round of 16 alongside Argentina, while Bosnia and Iran crashed out.

In an interview with FIFA.com, the Roma forward stated that the defeat to Nigeria, in which a Bosnia goal was wrongly disallowed for offside,  almost affected his side in their last group game against Iran which they won 3-1.

"That was what we were dreaming of (being at the Wotld Cup), all of us players that were there, and somehow it happened. Somehow, we were up against a country like Argentina, they are one of the best in the world," Dzeko said.

"We gave that first game more meaning. And even though we lost, people were proud of us and we were definitely proud of ourselves too.

"It was a hard match to prepare for mentally (against Iran). We were all upset after the game against Nigeria. And we knew after that second game that we were out of the competition."
