Nigeria slid down the FIFA rankings released by the football body on Thursday, despite the Super Eagles winning their only competitive game in June, the month under review.
The 2013 African champions were ranked 43rd for May, but they fell a shocking 14 places to 57th for June and lost a massive 81 points. They had 681 in May; they now have 601.
Interestingly, Chad, who lost 2-0 to Nigeria in Abuja in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June, fell only one place to 173rd in the world. They had 100 points for May, the same they have for June.
Tanzania, Nigeria’s next Africa Cup of Nations opponents, also slid down the table. They moved from 127th to 139th and lost 15 points (215 to 200).
The highest ranked team in Nigeria’s AFCON qualifying group, Egypt, are the only ones not to drop places or points.
The Pharaohs remain 55th in the ranking table and gained seven points (596 to 606).
Nigeria, once ranked No.5 in the world, also fell to 10th in Africa, while Egypt are ninth on the continent.
Tanzania, who host the Super Eagles in September, are 42nd in Africa, with Chad 46th.
Algeria remain Africa’s top ranked team, with Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisua, Senegal, Cameroun, Congo and Cape Verde completing the top eight.
