Eaglets Thrash Australia 6-0, Face Brazil In Q-Finals

The Golden Eaglets qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup after defeating Australia 6-0 in the second round early Thursday morning.

This was the Eaglets sixth straight win against the Aussies at the U-17 level.

Victor Osimhen, put the Eaglets ahead in the 22nd minute after racing to a through pass, beat his marker before placing the ball to the bottom left corner.

Three minutes later, skipper Kelechi Nwakali made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Funsho Bamgboye was fouled in the 18-yard box.

In the 73rd minute, Osimhen scored the Eaglets' third goal after slotting into an empty net following a mix up in the Australian defence.

Osimhen completed his hat-trick with 11 minutes remaining, after finishing off a fine pass from Nwakali to make it 4-0.

Substitute, Edidiong Essien made it 5-0 in the 86th minute, connecting with a diving header.

Then with two minutes left, Samuel Chukwueze completed the rout when he netted the sixth goal for the Eaglets.

Hat-trick hero, Osimhen now has seven goals in the tournament, matching the record set by Macaulay Chrisantus when the Eaglets won the tournament in 2007.

The Eaglets will take on Brazil in the quarter-final on Sunday 1st November. Brazil defeated New Zealand 1-0 in one of the second round matches.
