AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile is delighted with his side’s 3-1 win over Troyes but insists they will work harder over the next few weeks to secure an automatic qualifying spot for next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.
A Guido Carrillo double and a stoppage time goal from substitute Kylian Mbappe Lottin helped AS Monaco to their 13th Ligue 1 win of the season and moved the Principality club to second on the log and eight points clear of Nice in third place.
Super Eagles star Echiejile who had a hand in Monaco’s second goal when his shot was deflected to the path of Guido Carrillo to complete his double was very happy with three points after last week’s draw away at Saint-Étienne.
“The most important thing was the victory. We could have played better at times,” Echiejile told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Today was all about a good start and we went out there got the win.
“We’re still working hard and all that work went into getting the three points against Troyes. We have a few days to go over the things we didn’t do right and we’ll start preparing for Nantes.”
Monaco will visit Nantes in their next Ligue 1 game next Sunday and Echiejile who is expected to make his 13th appearance this season also tweeted: “Perfect Weekend! Finished strongly, Feels good to win.”
