EFL Cup: Moses, Ighalo Score As Chelsea Advance, Watford Fall

Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses, was on target for Chelsea in their 3-2 home win against lower league Bristol Rovers in the second round of the English Football League Cup on Tuesday.

Moses scored in the 31st minute to make it 2-0 to Chelsea.

New signing, Michy Batshuayi, grabbed a brace for Chelsea, scoring in the 29th and 41st minutes.

Bristol Rovers goals were scored by Peter Hartley and Ellis Harrison on 35 and 49 minutes respectively.

Despite coming on and scoring, Odion Ighalo and Watford crashed out of this season’s EFL Cup, losing 2-1 to visiting Gillingham after extra time.

Ighalo, who replaced Adlene Guedioura, scored on 57 minutes to put the Hornets 1-0 ahead.

But goals from Mark Byrne on 82 minutes and Bradley Dack in the 102nd minute secured the shock win for the lower division side.

Also on target on Tuesday was Nigerian midfielder, Hope Akpan, as Blackburn Rovers beat Crewe Alexandria 4-3 after extra-time.

Akpan’s goal came in the 42nd minute, to make it 1-1 against Crewe Alexandria.

Scott Wharton, Craig Conway and Shane Duffy were the other scorers for Blackburn.

Billy Bingham and Chris Dagnall (brace) scored for Crewe.

At the Molineux, Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, was rested in Wolverhampton’s 2-1 win against Cambridge United.

Helder Costa and Jed Wallace scored for Wolves while Medy Elito got Cambridge’s only goal.

And at Loftus Road, Queens Park Rangers featuring Olamide Shodipo, pipped Rochdale 2-1.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro scored both QPR’s goals while Matthew Lund was on target for Rochdale.

In other second round fixtures on Tuesday, Liverpool thrashed Championship side Burton Albion 5-0, as other Premier League club Everton, Crystal Palace and Swansea City also winning.
