Former Nigeria international, Austin Eguavoen, believes that beating the United States of America in their opening game of the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Chile will boost the Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets' target of winning the tournament again.
The team arrived in Chile on Wednesday after their short stay in Argentina where the NFF camped them for maximum concentration and will be playing the United States of America on Saturday in their first game.
Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt and the Eaglets to the 2003 U-17 World Cup, said he has confidence that the team under coach Emmanuel Amuneke will not disappoint in the assignment.
“It is very important to win the first game in any tournament and if the Golden Eaglets can achieve that, it will boost their confidence in other games. I see it as a very important match they must win,” Eguavoen told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Amuneke knows the task ahead of the team and I have no doubt in his ability to come back with the trophy, I can only call on Nigerians to support the team and pray for the success of the team as well."
He however advised the players to make good use of every opportunity that comes their way in the tournament as he also advised them not to underrate any opponent.
Nigeria will be attending the 2015 edition as the defending champions and so much is expected from the players.
The Golden Eaglets will also play Croatia and Chile in the group stage.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria
