Former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen has expressed happiness over the Golden Eaglets victory against hosts Niger in the opening game of the 2015 CAF U-17 Championship which got underway on Sunday.
The Coach Emmanuel Amuneke led team spanked the host 2-0 to comfortably top Group A with Guinea following the Nigerian boys after they also defeated Zambia 1-0 same day.
Speaking on the Golden Eaglets performance, Eguavoen said he was impressed with the quality the players displayed in the encounter, saying winning the first match will give them confidence to forge ahead in the competition.
Eguavoen who led the Super Eagles to the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt said the players still have a lot more to do while advising them to be disciplined focused and listen to whatever instructions the coaches are giving them.
“It was a good start and with the 2-0 win over Niger in the first game, I am sure that the players’ confidence will rise and they will be ready to face any team. I must also commend the coaches for the good job and tell them that we are waiting for the trophy”, says Eguavoen.
“And for the players, they should realize that they have not done anything, they are just starting and they need to be disciplined, focused and listen very well to everything the coaches are teaching them.
Meanwhile, the Nigerians who were camped in Sokoto to acclimatize before moving to Niger for the CAF U-17 Championship will host Guinea in their next game scheduled for Wednesday.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
