Dolphins manager, Stankey Eguma has complained bitterly that his team is terribly depleted by injuries to key players, as well as some players abandoning the team.
Eguma told Completesportsnigeria.com that no fewer than seven players of the club are not available for selection for different reasons including injuries and absence without official leave.
The former Enyimba, Heartland and Gabros manager attributed his team's poor run in the current campaign to his inability to have the complement of his full squad, adding that the initial financial lull in the team added to his woes.
Egum spoke to Completesportsnigeria.com from Kano Monday morning amidst the excitement of his team's 2-2 draw with hosts, Kano Pillars in a match day-14 tie of the Glo Premier League.
"The outcome of the game with Kano Pillars, for me, was a fair result even though we had chances of winning the game," Eguma said in a very emotional tone.
"You can't imagine that Ayo Saka is the only natural midfielder we used in the game and even at that he played with injury.
"Reason is that we don't have any other midfielder available. Although the injury was a relapse of previous problem.
"All the other midfielders are either out with injuries, sickness or even went awol.
"For example, Emeka Atuloma is not available, Victor Alegbe has gone awol for several months now and we have been pleading with him to return.
"Hope Fiberesima who we signed from Sharks has also gone awol for about two or three months now.
"Also, Christian Pyagbara, a striker we signed from Sharks has returned to his former club while Isiaka Olawale is down with malaria illness.
"Similarly, Chidiebere Okolie has been ruled out by a knee injury just as Ali Chinwedu, a left back we signed from Go-Round FC, Omoku, Rivers State, also picked up a blister injury so he could not travel with us to Kano.
"Though we have had to convert him to a midfielder and he has scored about two goals for us, including one at Sunshine Stars," Eguma moaned.
The Dolphins manager disclosed that the Garden City club registered only 26 players for the season.
"Whenyou subtract seven or eight from 26, you know the difference, that is the level of handicap we're facing", he rued.
Eguma told completesportsnigeria.com that the club still had to pay the run-away players in a bid to make them come back.
"We don't have any alternative, we can sign any new player for now so when the governor released funds for payment of part of the players arrears of entitlements, we had to pay them so they come back because probably some of them left in the face of the bitting financial handicap we suffered then", Eguma concluded.
