EGYPT 1-0 NIGERIA: How Super Eagles Rated Vs Pharaohs

By Adeboye Amosu:

DANIEL AKPEYI 7/10
Put up a brave performance in what was his first competitive game for the Super Eagles. Made two brilliant saves on  39 minutes  and could do nothing to prevent the Pharaohs from scoring the winner.

SHEHU ABDULAHI 4/10
A below-par showing from the Uniao Madeira of Portugal defender. He was constantly caught out of position especially in the first half and contributed little going forward.

EFE AMBROSE 5/10
The Celtic man did well to curtail the Pharaohs  attackers, but couldn't prevent them  from scoring the decisive goal. He  also lost possession a few times.

GODFREY OBOABONA 6/10
Solid as ever, but was  unfortunate to end up on the losing side.

STANLEY AMUZIE 3/10
Surprisingly kept his place in the starting eleven and put up a shoddy display in the game.  He was rightly substituted at the start of the second half after an error-prone performance.

OGHENEKARO ETEBO 4/10
Couldn't replicate his first leg performance. He make little impact in the game and  was substituted due to injury.

MIKEL OBI 5/10
The Chelsea midfielder had an average game although he started well, controlling the midfield early on. He however failed to lift his side to get a positive result from the game.

AMINU UMAR 4/10
A surprise inclusion in the starting line up. Umar toiled hard to make an impression in the game with no success.

AHMED MUSA 3/10
Another horrific display from the winger. Never made any significant impact in the game for the entire 90 minutes he spent on the pitch.

VICTOR MOSES 8/10
Unarguably Super Eagles best player in the game. Came close to getting the equalising goal late in the game when his shot hit the post.

ODION IGHAL0 4/10
Yet to make an impact on the international stage. The Watford forward struggled to get going and had a poor game by his Premier League standards.

SUBSTITUTES
ELDERSON ECHIEJILE 5/10
Took the place of Stanley Amuzie at the start of the second half and did little  to change the complexion of the game.

AZUBUIKE IKECHUKWU 6/10
The defensive midfielder helped stabilise the Super Eagles midfield when he came on for the injured Oghenekaro Etebo. He surely has a big future ahead of him.

ALEX IWOBI 6/10
Brought some life into the Super Eagles attack when he replaced Aminu Umar in the 72 minute.

  1. Shanes unto nigeria footballSamson saisia you made a bad selection kill nigeria AFCON dream again

    1. samson siasia must give Nigerians a good and conciving reasons why he bench very strongest and mature player like Onazi for local and immature Etobo even like more experience player like Echiejile  who can stop salah also leave WECK ahmed musa for 90 minute without make any impart from the match or terriost will visit his family

  2. The match was dull because there's no much experience moves from both teams but Nigeria teams so worst to expend they only one attack shot. Nigeria will continues to fail in senior team if they didn't stop choosing their own boyz to play rather select better once, imagine national will bench more experience play like Echiejile who can stop salah and start inexperience play also bench Onazi who's more mature and strong than Etobo even leave a play who didn't inform even to pass the ball correct until 90 minute (Ahmed Musa) where we've skillful player and mobile with speed like Simon Moses in bench is that coach merit to handle great football nation like Nigeria? Actually, i didn't want to blame any players coz the bastard and corrupt NFF will never amed coz of their pocket and personal interest to replace the link hole, I pray we should have someone who know about football to handle Nigeria NFF like Segun Odegami so we can enable to have professional coach like Cement Westfol who gave Nigeria great ever glory in Nigeria football.

Another name for Siasia should be Super Eagles serial specialist expert in failure. History will never be kind to him seeing that he oversaw two consecutive AFCON shut outs for Nigeria. I know people will want to make excuses for him that blame should be laid at the doorstep of Oliseh but I beg to disagree cos discounting Chad, Oliseh picked a point against Tanzania in the solitary qualifier he played. Siasia had two legged encounters with the Pharaohs to prove his mettle, but once again like was the case in the last AFCON 2015 qualifiers, he floundered where it mattered. His starting line up was questionable. Then his injury induced substitution also. Simon Moses was arguably one of Nigeria’s top performance during the first leg but was inexplicably left on the bench for 90 minutes. Ahmed Musa had no biz in that game, same as Aminu Umar. And if Siasia must start Ahmed, he should have started Simon on the other wing and play Victor Moses as his playmaker a role in which he reveled under Keshi to devastating effect in AFCON 2013.

To NFF BOARD AND PRESIDENT, pls dont listen to comments from people who do not understand football at all in this country. Samson siasia is never the reason we didnt win against Egypt. How can we expect a coach that just take up a team one month ago and expect him to do miracles against a quality team like the Pharoahs; the pharaohs that has been under one coach since last year. We should thank God that we were not disgraced in the hands of the pharoahs. We’re only denied qualification, but the boys perfomances were good. The Egyptians can confirm that they met a strong team in Nigeria. Russia 2018 qualifiers is around the corner. Pls allow Samson to take charge of this team from the beginning to end of the qualifiers. He has seen the strengths of our players and i can bet you that our next games will be more formidable and with formidable players. There’s bright future for our super eagles with Samson in charge. The 2018 Olympics in Brazil is also coming. Samson will prove himself again and his team will do us proud!

  5. The super Eagles of Nigeria have put on a brave performance against the pharoahs of Egypt that the Egyptians have to defend for the most part of the game. The only flaws on the part of the Eagles is that, the Super Eagles lack penetration into the vital area. No real shot on target. Siasia ought to have made some rightful changes during course the game. Though, i still saw a future formidable Nigeria super Eagles team. I think Siasia should b given another chance.

Mr Poster why beating around the Bush or blowing all this long Grammer ,while u aware of the Major reason?. The main reason here is that Siasia is busy searching or grooming a team for Rio Olympics rather than setting eyes on the Cup of nations. just check out his selections, only made up of U-23 boys. Another huge reason is the so called quota system or tribalism in Naija, my tribal man must play.until this issue is being solved in Naija football the sky will be our limit in the whole World. However, we should all realise that some players are known to be Club materials not National team materials, the likes of E EKUKU; J AKPOBORIE;OBAFIMI MARTIN; ANYIGBENI; ETUHU; IDEYE IGAHLO. Really i can just understand the reason of inviting ADI and HE wasnt even in the reserve list, this guy is the kind of attacking player Naija needed now. i watched him playing MLS. He`s more than   the bull, very skillful, could hold on the ball ,dribbles fine, scores, a very big problem for any defence he comes accross  and a good ball hustler. Infact am disappointed with the whole coaching crew.

  7. Am Very Greatful To See The Super Chicken Of Nigeria Lost To The Great Egyptians Side, And Fail To Qualify For The African Nations Cup. Keep Loosing.
