Nigeria goalkeeper, Austin Ejide, has revealed he is in talks with Hapoel Be’er Sheva for a contract extension while pouring cold water on suggestions he has been released by the club, completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Ejide said from his Israel base on Saturday that there was no iota of truth in reports claiming he was on his way out of Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
“I signed a three-year contract with Be’er Sheva which expires at the end of the season,” the former Bastia of France goaltender said.
“The season here (in Israel) is not yet over because we still have our last game of the campaign to be decided (on Saturday).
“Besides, we’re currently in talks over a possible new new deal.
“Under normal circumstances, if and when your contract expires, you become a free agent and options are then open for both club and player to agree or not agree on a new contract.
“We have met, spoken, and I’ve tabled my demands and if they accept, fine and good, but what they have come up with so far is not yet okay by me so we continue to talk.
“You don’t release a player who does not have a contract with you.
“As it is at the moment, I can say my contract with them is over because our last match of the season comes up on Saturday (May 30).”
Ejide expressed disgust over the big deal about the six goals he shipped in during the cup final.
“That a team lost a match by 6-2 is not something new in football,” he told completesportsnigeria.com.
“No one asks for that but it happens, Brazil lost 7-0 in the World Cup semi final and no-one called for the head of the goalkeeper.
“It’s not about making excuses but it’s down to the performance of the team in such situations.
“Anyone who watched the game will know I was not to be blamed.
“My club or even the manager has not put any finger on me as regards the scoreline and if this is the case I wonder why some people will take delight in making it an issue that I conceded six goals”.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria
