Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has stated that only a miracle will see Enyimba qualify for the semi-finals of this year’s CAF Champions League.
Enyimba lost their second group game of the competition, going down 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria on Wednesday.
They had earlier lost 1-0 to Zamalek in Port Harcourt a few days ago.
They are currently bottom in Group B with no points, while Zamalek and Sundowns both have three points.
Reacting to Enyimba’s defeat to Sundowns, Ekpo, who was in the Iwuanyanwu (Heartland) side that lost the 1988 Champions League final to Entet Setif, told Completesportsnigeria.com that the Nigerian league champions are in a precarious situation now.
“Playing in a group that has three teams, if you lose two matches, it will only take a miracle to still go through,” Ekpo told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“To stand a chance of qualifying, Enyimba need to beat Zamalek away. After losing two games already, morale will be low.
“I don’t know the kind of motivation that will be given to the players ahead of their next two fixtures because it is a dicey situation they are in now.
“I wouldn’t say they are completely out since it is a competition, let’s wait and see until the final day but as it is now, it’s very difficult.”Uncover how I make $750 weekly on Facebook using never been revealed Social Media tools.
