Emordi Delighted With PIllars’ Champions League Away Win

Nigeria champions, Kano Pillars recorded their first win away from home in their four-year campaign in the CAF Champions League when they stunned hosts, Malakia of South Sudan 2-0 at the weekend.

Goals from two Super Eagles forwards, Gambo Mohammed and Christian Obiozor sealed the important win for the four-time domestic league kings, setting the stage for an easy return leg clash in Kano in two weeks time.

Manager Okey Emordi was in no less pleasant mood, taking time off to applaud the doggedness of the Pyramid City side.

Emordi has seen plenty CAF Champions League action as manager, having assisted Kadiri Ikhana win the cup for Enyimba in 2003, then steering the People’s Elephant retain the trophy in 2004.

He said of the important win at South Sudan: “It was a good game of football and the result I would say was satisfactory.

“It is just the first game of the competition, so it was nice seeing the players play as well as they did.

“The important thing is victory and with the first leg now behind us, the focus is now on the return leg match.

“It’s not yet uhuru but we’ll work hard for the coming game”, Emordi who had handled Heartland, Rangers and El-Kanemi Warriors on the domestic scene said.

The Kano Pillars gaffer knows the risk in the players getting swollen headed or over confident as the return leg match beckons.

“We cannot afford to get carried away and I have already said drummed this into the ears of the players and they understand.

“It was only our first game and not even the second leg.

“We know we still have a long way to go because the target is to get to the group stage and continue to make progress”.
