Super Eagles goalkeeper and captain, Vincent Enyeama will not travel with the rest of the Nigeria squad to South Africa for Sunday’s international friendly against the Bafana Bafana after he was ruled out through injury.
The Nigeria captain, who recently notched up 100 games for the Super Edagles has been ruled out due to a back ache.
Enyeama was in goal for Nigeria on Wednesday when they lost 0-1 to the Cranes of Uganda in an international friendly, which marked his 100th game in Nigeria’s colours.
But according to reports gathered from the camp of the former African champions, the 32-year old has been ruled out due to a back problem.
And in his place, sand-in coach, Daniel Amokachi has called up Warri Wolves’ Daniel Akpeyi.
Enyeama has been Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper since 2002, after he replaced present goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu as Nigeria’s number 1.
Although, he temporarily lost his place to friend and rival, Austin Ejide in 2008, as the Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel ‘keeper was preferred by German coach, Berti Vogts.
Enyeama is now Nigeria’s second centurion, after former captain, Joseph Yobo.
