League leaders, WikkiTourists of Bauchi coach, Abdul Maikaba, has become the transfer target of two top NPFL sides; Enyimba of Aba and FC Ifeanyiubah of Nnewi, Completesportsnigeria.com can exclusively report.
Enyimba are subtly in the hunt for a new technical handler after the People’s Elephant appear technically knocked out of the CAF Champions League following two straight losses in the three-team Group B fixtures of the continental showpiece.
The current gaffer, Paul Aigbogun, it is understood, has fallen short of technical expectation of the Enyimba hierarchy, hence the early lure for Maikaba to come over, ostensibly for the coming 2016/2017 season.
On their part, FC Ifeanyiubah appear disappointed in the performance of the club under four expatriate coaches led by Bulgarian gaffer, Mikto Dobrev.
FC Ifeanyiubah were more miffed following Sunday’s NPFL match day 26 1-1 draw at bottom-of-the-table Ikorodu United.
There has been speculation that the hierarchy of the Anambra Warriors took the decision to dispense with Dobrev’s services moments after the match Sunday at Onikan Stadium despite palpable hope for a top three finish at the close of the season.
“It is true that some clubs are already showing interest in coach Maikaba,” confirms a close friend of the Wikki Tourists gaffer who had earlier worked at Enyimba.
“For now, Enyimba and FC Ifeanyiubah have contacted him, but that was through their middlemen,” the source said.
Our impeccable source also disclosed that coach Maikaba who had previously worked with Sharks of Port Harcourt appears reluctant to move at the moment.
“Coach (Maikaba) told them he’s not ready for a move at this point in time," the Wikki Tourists official stated.
“He told them that everything will have to wait till next season because for now, he has a project that he wants to see to a successful end at Wikki Tourists.”
Wikki Tourists are enjoying their best domestic season ever with a top spot in the Premier League table with 10 matches to end the season.
