Enyimba maintained top position in the Glo Premier League on Sunday following a comfortable 2-0 home win against Dolphins at the Enyimba Sports Stadium.
Two second-half goals by Andrew Abalogu and Ifeanyi Anaemena helped the Peoples Elephant secure a vital win against the Port Harcourt Dwellers and put them on course for a record seventh Glo Premier League title.
Second-placed Warri Wolves recorded a 3-0 win against Kwara United to keep up the chase with Enyimba.
Kufre Ebong scored the curtain raiser for the hosts in the 45th minute after several failed attempts to breach the visitors’ defence.
Joseph Osadiaye got the second in the 58th minute with Stanley Dimgba scoring the third seven minutes later.
In Akure, Sunshine Stars’ title aspirations suffered a huge setback following a 3-2 home loss to Nasarawa United, their first home loss of the campaign.
The Owena Waves started brightly with Okiki Afolabi opening the score in the first minute.
Nasarawa United dominated the game afterwards and got their reward when Thomas Zenke pulled them level two minutes after the restart.
Esosa Igbinoba further shocked the home crowd when he converted from close range in the 62nd minute for the Solid Miners’ second goal of the day.
Though Okiki Afolabi got the equalizer for Kenedy Boboye’s charges three minutes later they were left to rue a missed penalty kick by top scorer Tunde Adeniji as Igbinoba scored his second of the game 18 minutes from time.
The highly anticipated old derby clash between Rangers and 3SC ended 2-1 in favour of the Flying Antelopes.
