Nigeria U-23s forward, Oghenekaro Etebo, has revealed to completesportsnigeria.com that he turned down offers from abroad so as to represent the country at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations as well as the Olympics.
Both tournaments are not included in the Federation of International Football Federation (FIFA) calendar of international competitions and clubs are not compelled to release players to participate in them.
Key members of the squad like Junior Ajayi and Godwin Saviour recently linked up with clubs in Tunisia and Belgium.
The Warri Wolves forward however informed completesportsnigeria.com that he is prepared to wait until he is through with his commitments with the U-23 Eagles before joining the foreign legion.
“I have received quite a number of offers from foreign clubs who are interested in my services,” Etebo told completesportsnigeria.com.
“Some of them are good, while others I don’t actually like.
“But the truth is that I want to wait till after the U-23 tournament in Senegal and then the Olympics before moving abroad.
“I don’t want a situation where I will join a foreign club now and they will stop me from representing my country.
“I believe in my own ability and I will get more quality offers if I do well for the U-23s.
“So, there is no need rushing into making a move now.”
