Nigeria midfielder John Ogu made his ninth UEFA Europa League appearance of the season for Hapoel Be’er Sheva who lost 3-1 to Besiktas in Thursday’s first leg of their round of 32 tie at the Turner Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Second half goals from Atiba Hutchinson and Cenk Tosun maintained the Turkish side’s impressive run of not losing to an Israeli side. An own goal from William Soares had given the Turkish champions the lead the 42nd minute but it was short lived as Elyaniv Barda restored parity two minutes later.

Barda charged through the Besiktas defence attempting a quick one-two with Maor Melikson which deflected off a defender’s back into his path, and poked the ball into the net.

Ogu’s compatriot Anthony Nwakeame played the whole game as well.

At the Constant Vanden Stock stadium, Anderlecht put one foot in the next round of the competition b6 defeating Zenit St. Petersburg 2-0. A first half brace from Frank Acheampong earned Anderlecht a comfortable lead into the second leg.

Zlatan Ibrahimović was the match winner for Manchester United as the Swede scored a hat trick for the Red Devils who spanked Saint Etienne 3-0 at Old Trafford as Paul Pogba faced his brother Florentin with their mother watching from the executive box.

A second half hat-trick from Edin Dzeko and another strike from Palmieri Emerson gave Italian side AS Roma a 4-0 win over Villarreal.

At the Toumbas stadium, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Max Meyer and Guido Burgstaller were all on target as Schalke 04 defeated PAOK Thessaloniki 3-0.

Athletic Club defeated Apoel 3-2 at the San Mames. Second half goals from Inaki Williams and Aritz Aduriz sealed the win for the Spanish side after an own goal from Giorgos Merkis in the 38th minute had cancelled out Georgios Efrem’s opener two minutes earlier.

Giannis Gianniotas scored the second goal for Apoel to hand the Cypriot side a lifeline going into the second leg. Legia Warszawa and Ajax played out a goalless draw in Poland.
