Former Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike, failed to rescue his Turkish club Fenerbahce as they were handed a 4-1 defeat by Manchester United in a Europa League game on Thursday at the Old Trafford.
Emenike was introduced in the 46th minute of the game and sparked his side’s attack into life, giving the United defence a tough time. He provided the assist for his side’s only goal of the match scored by former United star Robin Van Persie.
France midfielder Paul Pogba scored a brace for Manchester United, with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard scoring the other goals.
Former Nigeria junior international, Kayode Olanrewaju, scored once and provided an assist as Austria Wien rallied back from two goals down to draw 3-3 against Italian side AS Roma at the Stadio Olympico.
He scored the leveller late in the game.
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was also on target as his Belgian side Genk recorded a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao.
The versatile midfielder scored Genk second goal seven minutes from time.
In Greece, Brown Ideye was benched for the entire 90 minutes as Olympiakos recorded a 4-1 win against Astana.
The duo of John Ogu and Anthony Nwakaeme were on the losing side as Hapoel Be’er Sheva fell 1-0 to Sparta Prague at the Yaakov Turner Toto Stadium.
In Turkey, Super Eagles forward, Aminu Umar,failed to add to his four goal tally and one assist in the competition as his side Osmanlispor were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Spanish side, Villarreal.
Osmanlispor led 2-0 at half time in the game before the visitors rallied back after the break.
Nigerian midfielder Raheem Lawal started the game and was substituted in the 39th minute.
At the Arena L’viv in Ukraine, the trio of Moses Simon, Rabiu Ibrahim and Anderson Esiti went home disappointed as their side, KAA Gent, lost 5-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Simon played the entire game, while Ibrahim joined the fray in the 40th minute after replacing Van der Bruggen. Esiti was an used substitute in the encounter.
