Players of Enugu Rangers could be rewarded with landed property for lifting the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League title for the first time in 32 years, Completesportsnigeria.com exclusively reports.
Already, a proposal to this effect has been forwarded to the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
“I don’t believe in cars or cash rewards. Give them land, they are settled because land is something that lasts for a very long time.
“Even if the person decides to sell it tomorrow, he gets a lot of money but you know we need to teach them financial discipline,” Charles Ndukwe, Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, told Completesportsnigeria.com exclusively on Monday.
“But if the governor decides to give them cash, fine and good. You know he has a large heart and whatever he’s going to give these boys he’ll bring to the exco where it will be discussed before execution.
“Some of these players earn up to N500,000 but you still see them going to the money lender to collect loans where they will pay about 25% interest which is not good.”
The proposal also includes a date for official presentation of the league trophy to the governor as well as victory parade where the trophy will be taken to the governor and later to all the local governments in the state.
“We’ll submit the proposal to the governor on Tuesday and once approved, we’ll make the official announcement and everybody, far and near, will be invited to come and celebrate with us because its worth celebrating,” the sports commissioner added.
On Ifeanyi Egwim’s injury, Ndukwe revealed that Governor Ugwuanyi has given a blank cheque for the treatment of the players at whatever level provided he is medically okay to resume his career while promising to be physically present to watch the former Dolphins forwad’s first match after the horrendeous injury.
“I was with him at the Orthopaedic Hospital this morning. I also interracted with Rangers doctor,” Ndukwe said.
“I also interracted with the commissioner for health and my friend, Dr Ekene, who also works there. He’s a surgeon too.
“The bottom line is that they are saying it’s good to fly him abroad but what happened to him is not so serious that he must be taken abroad that they can handle it here.
“They said the time to be wasted sourcing for visa, the tissue could become dead.
“At the moment, we’re waiting for the decision they will take this evening concerning, maybe, doing the surgery tomorrow.
“But be that as it may, myself and the commisioner for health met with His Excellency about two hours ago and he said that he’s not interested in whatever we’re saying, that what wants is the best.
“If flying him out is the best, that we should do that but if it is what they can let them do it that he’s only interested in making sure that the young man plays again.
“He said that since he still has 90% chances of playing they should do whatever is necessary for him to return to the pitch soonest.”Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
