EXCLUSIVE: Rohr Promises Moses, Success, Ighalo Will Return For Algeria Clash

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has said that all the four key players who missed the 2-1 victory in Zambia will return for the World Cup qualifier  matchday two fixture against Algeria in Uyo next month, reports

Speaking exclusively with Complete Sports in Abuja, the Franco/German said that the trio of Leon Balogun, Victor Moses and Isaac Success who were excused from the game against Zambia because of reported injuries copped during their respective club engagements and Odion Ighalo who took permission to bury his late father will definitely be back for the Algeria game on 12 November.

Chelsea's Moses and Watford's Success had reportedly been the subjects of a permanent Nigeria Football Federation ban because there were doubts about the authenticity of their injuries.

But Rohr insists they remain in his plans.

"Yes, we should expect to see some new players join us for the game against Algeria," Rohr told "The  three injured players (Balogun, Moses, Success) and the one that had a family issue and had to be excused will all be back. We shall also look at other players who play regularly in their clubs who may join the team.

"But for the local players who are on break, I'll be handicapped, because the league will be on break and it will be difficult for them because they would have lost their rhythm and they do not play and don't train, so it will be hard for them to make the team. But we shall look at the possibility to make out something for them."

He continued: "I will only invite players who are fit and play regularly for their clubs, that was one of the reasons I did not play Mohammed Musa at all because he had not played any game since after the match against Tanzania and Ahmed Musa had to wait till later in the game against Zambia to come and he did well."

Rohr said that all the players he took to Zambia co-operated with him and that their attitude was great, adding that he would not mind having all of them back if they are playing well in their respective clubs.

  3. Rohr thumbs up for you so far , we are all behind you , the good days of Nigerian football seems to be coming back .Aways be a strong coach and dont let any body dictate for you in NFF about players to invite …Once you continue to win and do the right thing , you will be untouchable .Face your coaching career and leave the politics to NFF, we already know that they are failures but with you performing , rest assured that we are now distracted about thier antics.God bless you as you move our footbal foward , mind you your incentive is not in the money but being at the world cup and to be known as a world cup coach!!..Nigeria is the best platform for you to do that and probably taking us and Africa to the first semi final , you have the players to do that …. !! wishing you all the best !!

  4. Reason i love foreign coaches to our nNigerian local coach

  5. Good job. The next game is key. Beat Algeria and we are a step closer to qualification. Only the best players on current form should be invited. Gone are the days of big name players. If you play well and regularly for your club you get an invitation. I like your style coach. Keep it up. Can’t wait to see our Super Eagles at the world cup again. We have materials all over the world all we need is a coach that can stand his ground and an NFF that is run professionally. God bless Nigeria.

why are they holding the dual invite of antony nwakaeme and john ogu, those guys are playing week in week out for their club, and can mend our attack and midfield respectively, i can bet on that….Tony is a very strong attacker, who can hold the ball, dribble and also have good passes to release his team mates, while Ogu john can give Onazi a run for his money anytime anyday…..go for them and burst our national team Rohr…

Kudos to the entire technical crew for the great result achieved in Zambia. As much as the afore-mentioned players are important, the most important aspect of the team players are needed right now is the defense. Shehu Abdullahi who shone greatly at the Olympics should start at the right back with Balogun back to partner Ekong while players like Juwon Oshaniwa, Godwin Oboabona and others should also be recalled to further provide competition to strengthen the defense. I suggest the coach go with a 4-5-1 formation against the Algerians. we should not get carried away in the attack despite the fact that we are playing at home. Having drawn their first game, the Algerians will be coming all out like wounded lions. To be fore-warned is to be forearmed. Eagles beware. A word is enough for the wise!

  11. think it will be be time to take a look at ola aina that can play right and left back before he choses england . nigeria is in need of classy players for thoses positions. heis in the chelseafc first team and cant understand why no one is doing anything to get him into the super eagles knowing that you have obi mikel in the same club with him
