Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, says the side cannot afford to fail the fans once again by failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportnigeria.com.
The three-time African champions will not be part of the party at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and also failed to qualify for the previous edition in 2015.
Gernot Rohr's men are however looking to make amends by grabbing one of Africa's five tickets for Russia 2018.
They will begin their quest to be part of the competition with an away fixture against Zambia at the Levy Nwanawasa Stadium, Ndola on Sunday.
And the FC IfeanyiUbah goalie insisted it is important they start on a positive note by securing three points against the Chipolopolo.
"It's important that we make it to the next World Cup after disappointing the fans by not qualifying for two AFCON finals now," the former Sunshine Stars goalkeeper told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"For us, starting with a win against Zambia is very important and we will do our best to achieve that.
"They too will be keen to start on a good note which will make it a tough encounter but I' m confident we have the quality to beat them."
