Ezuruonye: Injuries Have Wrecked Arsenal’s Title Hopes, Wenger Must Buy Benzema

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Nollywood superstar Mike Ezuruonye believes Arsenal's hopes of a Premier League title in over a decade are all but dashed following the mounting injury woes at the club.

Arsenal are set to face Sunderland on Saturday with close to 10 first team players out of the game and most not expected to return until 2016. This has made a lot of the club's fans to give up on their chances to become champions come May next year.

Arsenal fan Ezuruonye spoke exclusively to Completesportsnigeria.com on the title aspirations of the FA Cup holders and how Arsene Wenger can redeem the chances of his team.

"As much as I hate to admit this, Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League title are very slim now. Arsene Wenger must buy now in January and I hope he gets two or three quality players in the transfer window," Ezuruonye told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Ezuruonye then makes a cheecky admission on the players he would love to see at the club in few weeks' time.

"I hope Arsenal get Karim Benzema from Real Madrid. Let's hope the sextape scandal he is facing now helps us sign him and take the heat off Madrid. I don't know why my heart goes out to him. With Ozil, Sanchez and Cazorla behind Benzema, Arsenal will beat teams left, right, centre," the star of over 150 hit movies told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"I also hope we (Arsenal) are able to sign another defender because the duo of Per Mertesacker and Larent Koscielny though experienced guys, are getting on in years. But more importantly we need another defensive midfielder with the injury to Francis Coquelin. I would love to see Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho at the club. He is the kind of beast we need in the midfield."

Ezuruonye is not giving up on Wenger just yet but feels the Frenchman's criticisms are justified in the face of many difficulties.

"Arsene Wenger has overseen may highs at the club but when it comes to transfers, he needs to know that the times are changing. We need him to spend money.

"We no longer want a philosopher or moralist who believes money in football must be spent cautiously. Without huge investments Arsenal under Wenger may not win Premier League titles. These injuries are the consequences of him not wanting to spend. It has come to haunt him," Ezuruonye stressed.
