Falcons Stumble In Olympic Qualifier

—Held to 1-1 Draw By Equatorial Guinea

The Super Falcons were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in the first leg of their 2016 Rio Olympic qualifier in Abuja.

Midfielder Halimatu Ayinde put the Falcons ahead in the 25th minute which they took into the first-half break.

In the second-half, the Equatorial Guineans levelled the score in the 65th minute to end the encounter 1-1.

The return leg will come up in Malabo in two weeks’ time.

The winners between the Falcons and Equatorial Guinea will take on either South Africa or Kenya in the next round.

The Falcons failed to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics after they were eliminated by Cameroon.
