Former Green Eagles skipper Segun Odegbami on Monday said Nigerian football has emerged from the darkness that engulfed it, describing the court nullification of the NFF election as a new dawn.
Reacting to the Lagos Federal High Court ruling that nullified the Aug. 26 elections to the Board of the NFF, Odegbami said that it was time “for us as Nigerians to fix everything that is wrong with Nigerian football’’.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Odegbami, one of the candidates for the presidency of the federation, said the tenure of the NFF Congress had expired on Aug. 26 and added there was nothing on ground.
The former Eagles right winger, who did not participate in the elections, said it was time to do the right thing and ensure justice and fair play in the country’s football.
“We have just opened chapter two of the drama. I am still going to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
“I am taking FIFA to court for meddling in Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) affairs, to get FIFA to apologise to Nigerians, government and President for their meddlesomeness in Nigerian affairs.’’
He accused the world soccer body of “misinforming Nigerians about the true content of the NFA Statutes which they misread and misinterpreted without understanding the dynamics of how things work in Nigeria.
“I will be seeking compensation for my losses in the illegal elections supervised by FIFA.
“This is the time for Nigerians to be strong and dare FIFA.
“Our sovereignty is greater than the Statutes of any organisation and no Nigerian is greater than the country,’’ he added.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele has revealed that Under-17 athletes and footballers have been invited to a closed camp for the coming maiden edition of Two City Games (Lagos-Kumasi Games) which will hold between September 21st and 26th, 2010 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

He stated this in his office at a meeting with the Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the Games. He also said that, since the theme of the Games is “Sports Without Boundary”, the competition will encourage the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship across our borders.
Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele further said that, the State Government is using the vehicle of sports to empower and encourage youths in getting quality education in Lagos State. All the athletes and footballers that will participate in the competitions are students currently in schools. The State Government aims at developing our youth and actually maintain the true age grade at all competitions. These crops of young athletes are expected to form the corps of future athletes for Nigeria, he concluded.

Super Falcons coach, Uche Eucharia has charged the country’s U-17 women’s team, Flamingoes to go all out for the maximum points when they confront Trinidad & Tobago in their second group fixture of the on-going FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.

The coach Peter Dedervbo handled side defeated Korea DPR 3-2 in their opening game last Sunday and will be hoping to win today’s match and book a place in the next round of the competition.
“I strongly believe in these young girls based on what they did against Korea DPR in their first game but playing the host nation will be different. But I believe we have a team that can do it”, says the Super Falcons coach.
“They just have to be very focussed and careful because the home fans may be out to intimidate them, but if they play their normal game and have target, they will definitely excel”.
Eucharia however advised them to learn from some of the mistakes they made in the first match and approach today’s game with cautions.
“The only advice I can give them is to learn from their past mistakes and know what they are doing. Beating Trinidad and Tobago will give them lots of confidence in other matches”.

Portuguese top League side, Victoria Setubal has called up Super Eagles fringe player, Moses Bunde for a look-in and a possible contract talks.
The Lobi Stars forward has rarely been active in the Super Eagles games, his first call-up being the South Korea versus Nigeria international friendly decided in Suwon on August 11, 2010.

He was part of the 11 home based players called up by caretaker coach, Austin Eguavoen in the run up to the Gabon/Equitorial Guinea African Cup of Nations qualifier decided at U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Sunday.
And the young strike star gleefully informed Complete Sports that he is on the verge of grabbing a new career deal in Portugal
“This is not the first time I am being called up to the Super Eagles,” starts the dark skinned forward.
“I was part of the team that travelled to South Korea for the friendly match last month. So I am very happy to be called up again for this match against Madagascar.
“Even though I was not fielded in the match, I have no ill feelings at all. My heart is full of felicitation for those playing because it is a collective effort and everyone will one day get his own chance to play.
“Besides, I have been invited by Victoria Setubal of Portugal for a possible deal, which is one of the major gains of my being part of the Super Eagles.
“My visa is expected to arrive on September 17 and then I will travel to Portugal for trials, medicals and all other things if everything go well,” Bunde explained.

Twelve swimmers have been selected to represent Nigeria at the African Senior Swimming Championships billed to hold from Sept. 13 to Sept. 18 in Casablanca, Morocco.
Babatunde Fatayi-Williams, President of the Nigeria Swimming Federation (NSF),said in Lagos that the seven males and five females had intensified their training at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.

Fatayi-Williams said that the swimmers would take part in the 100m, 200m, 400m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly.
He expressed confidence that the swimmers, who had been in camp for the past two weeks, would not disappoint in Morocco.
The president, however, expressed regrets over the paucity of funds, lack of sponsorship and poor facilities which, he noted, were threatening the development of the sport in the country.

The Djurdagen of Sweden hard tackling defender told Complete Sports from her base that the girls did a good job by mounting pressure on the Koreans which lead to the two quick goals the Koreans conceded.

“The girls are still very young though there were some lapses in the match, but I must commend their determination to start the tournament on a winning note. Their subsequent games would be better than this, “the former Bayelsa Queens FC defender opined.
Obi who was listed by coach Uche Eucharia for preparation for the next AWC further revealed that the team should work on their defence line in the next game against host nation, Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.
“They must be very careful so as not to allow cheaky goals in their next game,” she said.
Ngozi Okobi gave the Flamingoes an early lead in the third minute of the game before the North Koreans restored parity and went ahead in the 28th and 58th minute with goals from Kimsu Gyong and Kim Jong. Okobi grabbed her second goal in the 79th minute of the encounter after Francisca Ordega had levelled scores for the Nigerian girls in the 77th minute.

Aigbogun told Complete Sports from her base in Zurich where she plays for the women’s team of the capital city side, FC Zurich that coach Peter Dedevbo’s girls must overcome Trinidad and Tobago if they hope to ease into the quarter finals of the cadet World Cup.

“The Nigerian girls were very skilful and too physical for the Koreans, but they must avoid conceding cheeky goals like they did on Sunday and strive to convert chances that come their way.
“I watched Trinidad and Tobago against Chile and they are not really a bad team. They’ve got the stamina which Nigerian teams are usually known for and also have some exciting players.
“If the Nigerian girls can beat Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday, then they have the chance to get very far in the tournament,” Aigbogun who told Complete Sports she dreams of representing Nigeria at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup stated.
