First Bank guard, Nkechi Akashili,has assured Nigerians that she would give her best to see her team claim a third FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women title in Maputo, Mozambique.
Akashili, who has featured in all three games for First Banks realises that it would be a tall task for her team, but notes that they would give the championship their best shot.
First Bank were winners of the competitions in 2003 and 2009 and were runners-up in 2011 while they came third in 1999, 2005, 2006 and 2008.
“We don’t expect to have it easy with the teams coming to Mozambique as many have beefed up their squads with players from Europe and America," Akashili tod Fiba.com.
“Every teams' target now is winning the champions’ trophy and the fight would be fierce. First Bank is ready to make the difference this time around because we want the trophy.”
Akashili who has averaged 36 points in 90 minutes of action so far at the tournament.
Akashili is expected to be in action when First Bank when they take on the Kenyan side United States International University (USIU) on Wednesday.
