Film Trick! Asiegbu Tips Eagles To Dazzle, Beat Egypt; Urges Enyeama, Emenike Recall

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Nollywood star actor Ejike Asiegbu hopes Nigeria's Super Eagles will come unscathed in their double 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Pharaohs of Egypt today (Friday) and Tuesday in Alexandria, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Interim coach, Samson Siasia, will lead the Nigerian side in the crucial games against the North Africans.

Asiegbu, a passionate Super Eagles supporter spoke with Completesportsnigeria.com on his thoughts on two-legged confrontation.

"Talking about the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt, I'm a bit cautious with our preparations as we have derailed in the past.

"Anyway, I expect to see the likes of new captain Mikel Obi,  Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Moses and Ahmed Musa to play their best football in the national team in these two matches. We know the importance of wins against the Egyptians," the former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria told Completesportsnigeria.com.

The veteran actor further reiterated that Samson Siasia was the right choice made by the Nigeria Football Federation to coach the national following the resignation of Sunday Oliseh.

"Samson Siasia has shown consistency in the understanding of his boys and so I expect a win for Nigeria with a 2-1 victory for us at home and a draw away in Egypt. I commend the NFF for that, though NFF issues is a matter for another day.

"Siasia has been there before, though with not too good results. This time, he wouldn't want to make the same mistakes," Asiegbu, a Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Port Harcourt stressed.

Asiegbu then further expressed his belief that the Super Eagles still need the experience of the duo of Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike who have retired from the national team.

"Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel Emenike left because of Sunday Oliseh's unbearable attitudes towards them and could still be persuaded to return to the Super Eagles. We still need their experience," Asiegbu maintained.

"We need to turn around things if we want to take our place in the comity of nations by restoring our pride in football.

"We made an Olympic record in Atlanta '96. The Super Eagles were feared and respected and our FIFA ranking was 5th in the World and 1st in Africa after the 1994 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia. We should be striving to return to that kind of glory," Asiegbu concluded.

The Nigeria versus Egypt game kicks off 5pm Nigerian time this evening at the Ahmedu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
