Enyimba of Aba on Saturday went two points clear at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayelsa United in a match day 23 clash in Oghara.
The People’s Elephant went in front on 27 minutes through Sikiru Kamal.
The visitors who also drew 2-2 with Akwa United in a match day 21 trip to the Nest of Champions in Uyo will remain top of the log with two points at least until Sunday when all other match day 23 games will be concluded.
Sunshine Stars, currently second on the log, have a chance to topple the leaders should they win their home game against Giwa FC.
Also on Saturday, El-Kanemi coach, Kelechi Emeteole, suffered a 1-0 defeat in his home state, Abia, as Abia Warriors ran out 1-0 winners in a match day 23 clash in Umuahia.
An own goal by defender Kabiru Adewale ensured Ladan Bosso garnered all three points on offer as Emeteole made a losing debut in his third missionary journey to El-Kanemi Warriors.
Emeteole helped El-Kanemi gain promotion to the top flight in 2013.
The game was heading for a stalemate before Adewale under the weight of the home team’s persistent pressure turned the ball into his own net to gift Abia Warriors victory.
El-Kanemi will host Warri Wolves in a match day 24 clash on Wednesday.
