Syli Stars of Guinea coach Kanfory Bangoura says he never doubted his team’s ability to qualify for the quarter-finals of the on-going Africa Nations Championships ahead of the Super Eagles despite coming to the final group match needing a win.
Speaking at the end of his team's 1-0 victory which eliminated Nigeria, Bangouara said bookmakers had tipped Nigeria to qualify ahead of Guinea but he was happy to send the Eagles out of the tournament after propelling his players to push the Nigerians back by keeping the ball.
He said the Nigerian team is not as good as people think after he took time to study them, saying the Eagles were lucky to have conceded just one goal in the match.
”We deserved to qualify for the quarter-finals because we played good football while Nigeria sat back to defend," Bangoura said.
“I believe in my players and today they did not disappoint millions of fans back home.
"This is a huge win for Guinea and I really commend the commitment and determination of my players.
“We will be inspired by the this victory."
