–Rangers crash in Oriental war in Nnewi
Bright Ejike emerged the hero of the night scoring twice in Heartland’s 5-2 demolition of Nasarawa United in Sunday’s match-day 3 of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Premier League match decided at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Ebere Odiche grabbed his second goal of the season when he opened the floodgate of goals 21 minutes after kick off. Fred Okwara doubled the lead nine minutes past the hour mark but Mannir Ubale halved the scoreline for the visitors just before the half time break.
The Naze Millionaires who have now won all two games in the campaign so far, stepped up their game on resumption of the second period and were rewarded four minutes after restart when a Nasarawa United defender handled the ball in the area after a corner kick.
Ejike stepped forward to send the goalkeeper the wrong way, grabbing his first goal of the night.
Mustapha Musa reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 57th minute and with scoreline at 3-2 Ejike hauled his second on the night to restore the home team’s three-goal advantage.
Joseph Iniobong added the fifth on the dot of time to give the hosts a comfortable 5-2 win.
In Nnewi, Enugu Rangers went down fighting to new commers, Ifeanyi Ubah United with ex-Super Eagles and Beijing 2008 Olympic silver medalist Chibuzor Okonkwor scoring the winner for the home team.
Okonkwo’s curling first half free kick proved enough to hand the hosts all three points on offer in the Oriental Derby.
And it turned out a pleasant gift for new owner and oil mogul, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah who watched the team play for the first time.
Arriving the Beverly Hills Hotel Stadium in company of top businessman and kinsman, Innocent Chukwuma of Innoson Motors among others, Ubah watched as his pet team hand Rangers their second defeat of the season.
