Heartland of Owerri captain, Chinedu Efugh is close to sealing a deal with reigning NPFL champions, Enyimba of Aba.
The People's Elephant's officials have been a long-standing admirers of the centre-back who also doubles as a midfielder.
Efugh joined the Naze Millionaires in 2008/2009 season following a move from Enugu Rangers.
Completesportsnigeria.com checks reveal that Efugh who grabbed the winner in the 2-1 defeat of Enyimba in the 2011 Federation Cup final against Enyimba has already agreed personal terms with the two-time African champions.
“Who told you I’m leaving for Enyimba? ” queried the fair skinned libero nicknamed ‘Chicago’.
“Well, you are correct. You know I’ve spent quite a time here at Heartland and I feel it’s time for me to move on.
“Yes, I’ve reached understanding with Enyimba.
We’ve even agreed personal terms and what remains is for them to sort things out with my present club, Heartland, as regards my transfer.”
Efugh was a Federation Cup losing finalist twice with Enugu Rangers in 2004 and 2007. But his cup horror came to a fitting end when he switched over to Heartland and led the club to break their 18-year-old trophy-less campaign following a back to back victory in the Federation Cup in 2011 and 2012.
“It was the greatest goal of my career”, Efugh said of his cup winning goal in 2011 final against Enyimba.
“I played in two cup finals with Rangers in 2004 and 2007 but lost both. But things changed here at Heartland as we won the cup back to back in 2011 and 2012”, he said gleefully.
However, his teammate, Bright Ejike, a striker, who is also being courted by Enyimba as they prepare for the 2016 CAF Champions League campaign, is yet to make up his mind either to follow his heart or his mind.
“Yes, I’ve had transfer talks with Enyimba. We have discussed issues like my personal terms but I’m yet to say yes, or no,” Ejike, a former Sharks forward said.
“There are other issues I’m considering before taking a final decision,” he added without further explanation.
