Nigeria may have opted not to name a replacement for the captain of the home- based Eagles side, Gbolahan Salami, who has gone absent without official leave, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Warri Wolves forward has refused to join his colleagues in camp following their two days Christmas break.
There are reports that the former Shooting Stars hitman is set to link up with a European side which will ultimately rule him out of featuring in the Africa Nations Championship, a competition that is reserved for senior players plying their trades in their country's domestic leagues.
A top official of the Home Eagles, Patrick Pascal, admitted to Completesportsnigeria.com that it is uncertain if the technical crew of the side will invite a new player to take the place of the striker.
"At the moment we have 25 players in camp, and only 23 will make the final list for the CHAN," Pascal, the team's coordinator, told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The decision to invite players rests with the coaches, but I don't think that is going to happen since some players will still be dropped.
"The final list should ready before we travel to South Africa for the fnal phase of our preparations on January 2nd.
"So, it's not likely that new players will come into side now."
