Ibe Set To Snub Nigeria

—Targets England U-21s, Senior Team

Liverpool teen star Jordan Ibe is intent on playing for England rather than Nigeria and is eyeing a place in the England U-21 team bound for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic.

Ibe is eligible to play for Nigeria through his father, but hopes to attract the attentions of England manager Roy Hogson after playing for the U-21s this summer.

“I want to get into the England U-21 team and then eventually into the senior squad and win some cups,” he told the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday.

He also gave a hint of where his skills came from: “Ronaldo, the Brazilian one, and Zinedine Zidane. My Cryuff turns come from Zidane and the footwork would be from Ronaldo. Because he is an attacking player I try and learn things from him.”

Victor Moses and Shola Ameobi also played for England’s age-grade teams before switching over to play for the Super Eagles.

Nigeria seem to be losing the battle to cap Ibe though, with his eagerness to play for the Three Lions.
