Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo ended his 12-game goal drought for Watford who suffered a 4-2 loss to Norwich City on Wednesday night.
In spite of the result, Norwich were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship going into Sunday’s final round of fixtures.
In the other match on the night, Sunderland thrashed Everton 3-0 to secure their Premier League status for another season and ensure relegation for local rivals Newcastle.
Ighalo who was making his 36th English Premier League appearance for Watford finished off Troy Deeney’s pass after fine work from the Hornets skipper for his side’s second on the night.
Ighalo who has now scored 15 league goals and 17 in 42 appearances this season had a chance in the 11th minute to score the opener but his rebounded shot was side-footed into the net by Deeney.
But Norwich recovered from their poor start as the duo of Nathan Redmond and Dieumerci Mbokani scored a goal each in seven minutes after to hand the host a 2-1 lead after 18 minutes.
The Yellow Canaries were gifted a third goal courtesy of a Craig Cathcart own goal who inadvertently headed home a Wes Hoolahan’s cross.
Mbokani bagged his brace in the 57th minute with a delicate finish following a Redmond assist.
The former Dynamo Kiev forward almost scored an hat-trick when he turned in the box and fired a thumping a strike which was blocked by a hand which the referee adjudged not to be intentional.Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
