Watford striker Odion Ighalo has been voted by Complete Sports readers as the Player of the Month for January/February after a remarkable goals return.
The former Nigeria U-23s forward beat off competition from Stoke’s Victor Moses and West Brom’s Brown Ideye.
Ighalo got just over half of all the votes (52 per cent), leaving Moses trailing in second place with 31 per cent. Ideye got 17 per cent.
Undoubtedly, the most prolific striker in the whole of England in 2015 is Ighalo.
The Watford striker has outscored all the big names, putting the likes of Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Tottenham’s Harry Kane in the shade.
Incidentally, Ighalo did not have a great start to the year. He was taken off after 65 minutes in a 3-0 loss to Chelsea in an FA Cup tie on 4 January.
He began his goal spree on 10 January, scoring once as Watford lost 3-1 to Huddersfield.
He continued his rich vein of form when he scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Charlton on 17 January and exploded by scoring four times in a 7-2 victory over Blackpool seven days later. Both were Championship games.
The former Nigeria U-23s and Granada striker started February the way he ended January by netting again. He scored the only goal as Watford defeated Blackburn 1-0 on 7 February and added another two as Watford won 2-1 at Brentford three days later.
Ighalo scored one and assisted another as Watford defeated Bolton 4-3.
He rounded off February when he scored twice in a 3-0 win over Rotherham on the 24th.
