–Mikel, Omeruo, Oshaniwa benched
John Obi Mikel (Chelsea);Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United): Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel, was an unused substitute for Chelsea who beat Newcastle United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to go two points clear of rivals Manchester City on Saturday. Mikel has made 12 EPL appearances this season. Nigeria-born winger Sammy Ameobi was introduced in the 63rd minute for Yoan Gouffran for his 14th game of the season. The lanky forward has scored once.
Brown Ideye, Victor Anichebe (West Brom): Nigerian srtiker Brown Ideye was replaced by his compatriot Victor Anichebe in the 63rd minute as West Brom beat Hull City 1-0 on Saturday to move two points clear of the relegation zone. Ideye had the best chance of the half when he was put through one-on-one with McGregor, but with the goalkeeper standing tall the striker dragged horribly wide of the post.
Sone Aluko was however not listed at the Hawthorns. West Brom are up to 14th with the win while Hull dropped to 17th, out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
Kenneth Omeruo (Middlesbrough), Hope Akpan (Reading): Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo was benched for the entire duration of Middlesbrough’s goalless draw against Reading at the Madejski Stadium. The Chelsea loanee has played 14 games for the Riverside team this term while Super Eagles midfielder Hope Akpan who is recuperating from injury was not listed for Reading. Akpan played 12 games before he got injured while in action for Nigeria.
Danny Shittu (Millwall): Super Eagles centre-back Danny Shittu was missing in action as his championship side Millwall lost 1-0 to Blackpool on Saturday.. Shittu has played eight games this season and has scored once.
Odion Ighalo (Watford): Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo scored his fifth goal of the season for the Championship promotion hopefuls Watford who lost ground on their top six rivals as Huddersfield earned a deserved 3-1 win at the John Smith’s Stadium. Ighalo pounced on a goalkeeping error to equalise just three minutes after coming one for his 18th game of the season. Watford remain in the play-off places, occupying sixth position, one point ahead of
Ogenyi Onazi (Lazio): Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi played his ninth Serie A game of the season for Lazio who played out a 2-2 draw against Roma in a spectacular Derby della Capitale on Sunday. He replaced Felipe Anderson in the 65th minute of the encounter.
Joel Obi (Inter Milan): Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi played the last 26 minutes of Inter Milan’s 3-1 defeat of Genoa at the San Siro. The 24-year-old player replaced Hernanes in what was his 10th appearance this season. Obi has however scored once.
Ramon Azeez (Almeria): Super Eagles midfielder Ramon Azeez was an unused substitute in Almeria’s 2-0 loss at home to Sevilla. Azeez has made nine appearances this season. The defeats means Almeria remainedd just two points clear of the bottom three.
Vincent Enyeama (Lille): First choice Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama helped his French side Lille secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 1-0 victory over bottom side Caen. Enyeama who lost out on the African Footballer of the Year award to Yaya Toure has played 20 Ligue 1 games, conceding 17 goals.
Austin Ejide, John Ogu (Hapoel Be’er Sheva); Nwakaeme Anthony (Hapoel Ra’anana): Super Eagles duo of Austin Ejide and John Ogu could not help Hapoel Be’er Sheva from slumping to a 1-0 loss at home to Hapoel Ra’anana who paraded Nwakaeme Anthony for the entire duration on Saturday,their third defeat of the season. While Ejide has featured in all Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s 17 games so far Ogu has played 16 games scoring twice. Nwakaeme Anthony has scored three
goals in 17 games in the Ligat ha’Al so far.
Olanrewaju Kayode (Maccabi Netanya): Former Flying Eagles striker Olanrewaju Kayode failed to score in his ninth straight game for Maccabi Netanya who slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Hapoel Haifa on Saturday. He was yellow carded in the 35th minute of the defeat. Kayode last scored in his side’s 3-1 loss away to Maccabi Tel Aviv in November 2014. He has scored five goals in 16 games.
Juwon Oshaniwa, Yero Bello (Ashdod): Nigerian defender Juwon Oshaniwa was benched for his side’s third straight game on Saturday as Ashdod played out a 3-3 draw at home to Beitar Jerusalem. Oshaniwa who has played six games so far last featured for Ashdod in their 3-1 loss to Maccabi Haifa. His compatriot Yero Bello who was on from start to finish has scored three goals in 14 games.
Obiora Nwankwo (Academy de Coimbra): Nigerian midfielder Nwankwo Obiora saw 90 minutes of action in Academica’s 2-2 home draw against Pacos De Ferreira. Obiora who was however booked on 37 minutes, has now played 15 times this season.
Anderson Esiti (Estoril): Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti featured from start before he was withdrawn for Matias Cabrera on 64 minutes as Estoril were held 1-1 at home by Moreirense. The game was his ninth in the on-going campaign.
Daniel Adejo (Kalloni): Nigerian defender Daniel Adejo was on for 90 minutes in his side’s 1-1 away draw against Veria. Adejo has seen action 18 times, netting just once.
