Odion Ighalo's partner in the resourceful Watford forward-line, Troy Deeney, has penned a fresh five-year deal for the Hornets, according to the the club's revelation on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
A well kept summer contract conversation between Deeney and Watford which saw the club retaining their beloved captain after warding off big offer from EPL champions, Leicester City, was finally published on the club's website on Friday to the delight of their teeming fans.
Deeney said of his decision to stay: “This club really means business and I want to be part of this.
“I’ve listened carefully to everything the club has had to say to me recently.
“We’ve talked things through in a sensible way – and it’s helped me fully deal with lots of my own thoughts.
“When you’re right in the middle of something, maybe you take it for granted how quickly things are moving forward. I don’t think I’ve done that; but by talking it over it’s clear that Watford isn’t ever going to settle for second-best – and that’s how I want to feel about my career so it works for me.”
Watford CEO, Scott Duxbury would reflect the club's delight: “It’s been important to have considered discussions," he said.
“Views have been shared and debated and there has always been a healthy dialogue between myself, Troy and his agent.
“Making big decisions is part of the accountability that comes with running a football club, and I’m aware of that.
“But for a player it’s perhaps even more crucial, because it’s about defining the future for you and your family, both professionally and personally.
“I have total respect for the time and diligence Troy has shown in coming to the conclusion he has.”
Deeney scored 15 goals for Watford in all competitions in the 2015/16 season, while his strike partner, Odion Ighalo netted 17. And the Hornets are so resolute in keeping the pair for as long as possible.
It looks every inch that new manager, Walter Mazzarri wants Ighalo and Deeney under his reign. Watford most recently turned down a massive £38m offer for Ighalo from Chinese side, Shanghai SIPG, which is bound to add value to the Nigeria international's remaining four-deal at the Vicarage Road.
Three new signings, Jerome Sinclair, Christian Kabasele and Isaac Success will be part of Watford's pre-season campaign which starts on Monday, July 4.
