Iheanacho In Cameo Role As Norwich City Hold Man City

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Nigeria's Kelechi Iheanacho played cameo role, featuring for 13 minutes on Saturday afternoon at the Carrow Road as Manchester City were held to a scoreless draw by Norwich City.

Manuel Pellegrini brought the Nigerian in the 77th minute in place of Jesus Navas and the former youth international who has been invited for the Super Eagles' 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt helped launched some attacking forays into the Norwich defence.

Sergio Aguero went close in the 16th and 28th minutes of the match but his shots were saved by Norwich keeper John Ruddy.

Norwich's Patrick Bamford shrugged off a challenge from Nicolas Otamendi and unleashed a left-footed shot that came off the bar with six minutes to the end of the first half.

Matt Jarvis also came up with a shot for the home side, at added time of the first half but it ended scoreless in the first 45 minutes.

Raheem Sterling who came off the bench for Wilfried Bony early in the second half was set up by Iheanacho with seven minutes left on the clock who threaded a good pass to the England international but John Ruddy displayed great awareness to thwart the chance.

Iheanacho had a shot blocked inside the Norwich box. City players screamed for penalty but referee John Moss waved away the players' call.

City searched desperately for a decisive goal in the latter stages of the game but it ended in a stalemate, the dropped points further damaging their chances to mount a title challenge.

They remained 4th in the table with 51 points but Norwich are still troubled with relegation worries, occupying 18th place in the table.
